The fan and the flower

September 21st, 2007

Directed by Bill Plympton, written by Dan O’Shannon.

Description: A heart-warming animation by Bill Plympton, telling the odd but touching love story between a fan and a flower. The animation is also a lesson about sacrifice as towards the end fan blows itself through the roof of the house to let the rain in so the withered little flower can live again, despite the fact it was a love that could never truly be. All this mixed in with an inspired musical background and Paul Giamatti’s naration make for a worthwhile watch.

L’homme qui plantait des arbres

September 20th, 2007

Directed by Frederic Back, story by Frank Giono.

Description: Considered by some to be a masterpiece of the animation world, “The man who planted trees” is a rather simple story of an even simpler shepperd and his solitary sustained effort to restore life to a desolate barren valley. Using classic crayon animation, Frederick Back tells a beautiful story that also teaches an important lesson about the power of a single person and the change that can be born of even the smallest of things or actions where there is a will to do so. A must-see for everyone.

Dad’s clock

September 19th, 2007

Directed by Dick Jarman.

Description: A mechanical representation of the life of a father diagnosed with cancer whose final mission is to build a wooden clock. The animation is a strange and surreal experience, quite symbolical in nature and the concept and attention to detail make it even more attractive. Probably not a watch for the small ones, but definately an intriguing piece for the conceptual art lovers.

Created and directed by Johannes Weiland.

Description: Annie and Boo is the romantic tale of a young girl that by a coincidence meets a new friend who is.. a bit strange.. and who turns out to BE the coincidence. Yes, that’s right, Boo is a coincidence, one like many others that lurk around unseen around our every step, just waiting for that perfect moment to drop a broom in front of us. Don’t take my word for it, watch the animation, it’s a heart-warming romantic funny tale that you will undoubtedly enjoy.
